We are frequently asked this question by our clients. The cake size will depend on a few factors. If you are serving the cake to the table as a plated dessert, then one slice per guest is needed. If you are serving the cake at a station, we recommend servings equal to 80% of your guest count. If the cake is served at one of our dessert tables with an extensive selection, then you may only need servings for what equals 50% of your guest count. But you do not have to worry about this detail (and many other details that come with organizing a dessert table) because we, at Sweet Events, will guide you in planning for your cake, and your dessert table. We also can order your custom cake from our experienced bakers who we have established working relationships with here in the Bay Area, and therefore can get good prices. Below is a "Cake Portions Serving Chart" to help you approximate the cake size to order based on the number of guests at your event. Just double click on the file below:
Sometimes no matter how carefully you plan, the cake simply will not yield enough pieces or there will be a lot left over when it is cut. This can happen because everyone cuts cakes differently. When you really want accurate portions for an event, cupcakes can be a logical option to consider. Cupcake stands help create gorgeous elegant configurations and you just have to bake the amount of cupcakes you need for each guest. No cutting or math required! Still make a few extra cupcakes for those unforeseen guests and second helpings.
